Erdocide: Erdogan's neo-modern societal genocide
Time & Location
About The Event
Since the failed coup attempt in Turkey, the AKP declared a state of emergency to purge more than 1 million citizens. Over 100 thousand people were arrested on terrorism charges with those dismissed from their jobs made to live in an open-air prison. The stigma made it difficult to find employment with many in dire financial situation, some chose to flee whilst others are living on family handouts without a job, a future and withering optimism. The purge list being available within 48 hours suggests those who were being removed from their posts was pre-meditated, systematic and had the effect of removing any dissident voices. This was a deliberate genocide in the making.
Former Naval Officer Huseyin Demirtas (author of the book “Erdocide”), along with academics Dr Bayram Erzurumluoglu and Dr Merj Hemp will converse with former ABC TV producer Dr Peter Manning as they share their thoughts on the so-called coup event and the subsequent genocide that followed.
